History

1949
The founder, Kaneko Horiuchi, established "Horiuchi Shoten" in Dogenzaka, Shibuya, Tokyo.
In place of her ailing grandfather, she started the business while raising her four children.
At the time, Fujiyoshida City in Yamanashi Prefecture was a major production area for suit linings, and top-class tailors and haute couture fashion boutiques sought the finest materials. By meeting these strict quality standards and earning trust, the company established a reputation as a specialty store handling high-end products.
The philosophy of "selecting and delivering quality products" has been passed down since its founding.

1964
The second-generation successor, Shigetoshi Horiuchi, became president. He shifted the business model from retail to sales and wholesale, expanding distribution channels to include high-end sewing factories in department stores. The company was incorporated and renamed "Horiuchi Co., Ltd." A company building was constructed, further growing the business.

2017
The third-generation successor, Michio Horiuchi, became president. Adapting to changing times, the company transitioned to online sales. In addition to dressmaking supplies, the product lineup expanded to include kimono sewing and craft supplies. The company shifted to a business model that no longer required in-person customer interactions. To enable faster shipping and expanded inventory, the headquarters was relocated to the founder's hometown of Yokohama, Kanagawa. The company has strengthened its nationwide delivery network and aims to bring excellent Made in Japan craft supplies to the world.
